City Racing is motivated in engineering and manufacturing innovative single seat race cars destined to continue pushing the frontier.
Formula Student is a testing ground for the next generation of world-class engineers. It challenges university students from around the world to design and build a single-seat racing car, which is then put to the test at the famous Silverstone Circuit.
Its key aims are to inspire the next generation and address the skills shortage in engineering. The way FS achieves this is by providing crucial practical experience and transferable skills for use in a diverse range of industries.
FS is Europe's most established educational motorsport competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with the backing of industry and high profile engineers such as the Patron Ross Brawn OBE. The competition has been held in the UK since 1998 with the famous Silverstone Racing Circuit staging the event since 2007.
The CITY RACING Story
City Racing is the Class 1 Formula Student team of City University London's School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. Currently the team is designing the CR14 for entry into Class 1 of the 2014 UK Formula Student competition to be held at the Silverstone Circuit in July 2014. The Class 1 challenge is to design, build and race a single-seat racing car against other student teams representing Universities worldwide.City Racing is comprised of third and fourth year Engineering students. The cars are designed and built by the students with support and advice provided by the School's academic and technical staff. The team first completed and entered a car into the July 2003 event. Since then the team has experienced varying levels of success but with new facilities, City Racing is aiming to move up the grid.
Students assume that a manufacturing firm has approached them to produce a prototype single-seat race car for evaluation. This evaluation includes the technical, business, management and marketing sides of such a project providing students with a range of skills applicable in all employment sectors. Class 1 is for fully constructed and running vehicles as defined by the FSAE and FS rules with competition points awarded for static and dynamic events. The static events are Design, Business Presentation and Cost & Sustainability. The dynamic events are Acceleration, Skid Pad, Sprint and Endurance & Fuel Economy designed as a thorough test of the vehicles performance. Formula Student provides the perfect opportunity for students to showcase their talents.
